Parliamo questo mese della penicillina, scoperta 90 anni fa. We have to thank a serendipitous accident on a messy lab bench for one of the first antibiotics that forever changed medical history. Indeed, in returning from a vacation in September 1928, Dr Alexander Fleming, a bacteriologist, discovered that mold from an old window had reached some of his Petri dishes. He noticed that the mold had inhibited the growth of the colonies of Staphylococcus, a bacterium responsible for many infections.
